The EU Commission requests internal documents from X regarding its algorithms

The EU Commission is advancing its investigation into Elon Musk’s platform X, demanding access to internal documents related to its algorithms. The company has been instructed to freeze and store the data, as announced by the Brussels authority.
A spokesperson for the EU Commission stated that the platform will be required to “provide us with internal documents on all recent changes to algorithms.” These documents must be submitted by February 15. Additionally, the platform must grant the Commission access to specific programming interfaces to assist with the investigation. These steps are part of an ongoing inquiry into X.
The Brussels authority emphasized that these actions are essential to assess the platform’s systemic risks.
The EU has been scrutinizing Musk’s platform for some time, with several investigations underway over alleged violations of the Digital Services Act (DSA). The investigations aim to determine whether X is complying with regulations designed to combat hate speech and disinformation.
The DSA is a powerful tool aimed at curbing the influence of large platforms. Non-compliance could result in significant penalties, including fines of up to 6 percent of global annual revenue. The EU Commission also has the authority to impose daily fines until the issues are addressed.
